Best Concert The Triptych Tour – San Francisco – October 27, 2011
I wrote a review of this show for my COMA Music Magazine column “The View From The Stairs†and it is my choice for Best Concert of 2011. It was held at my favorite venue, The DNA Lounge, had a surprise guest (Joey from Combichrist!) and featured 3 really amazing bands: System Syn, God Module and Imperative Reaction. I had already seen System Syn (with Assemblage 23 in March) and God Module (with Combichrist in November 2010) within the past year, but this was my first time seeing Imperative Reaction. I have loved them since “Giving Into the Change†(Mom played it in her first DJ set ever), but one of my all-time favorites is “As We Fallâ€. Having a peanut war as all three bands (and Joey) came on stage to sing that song at the end of the show was SO much fun! Then getting to meet everyone and hang out backstage was a great way to end the night!
Best New Discovery
My Mom doesn’t have much God Module in her collection, so I didn’t really know them until I saw them twice in the last year or so. They ROCK! I asked Mom why she didn’t have much of their music and she said, “I think I confused them with a band I didn’t like, but I have no idea why nowâ€. So in some ways, God Module was a new discovery for both of us! And Jasyn, stop trying to scare me… it doesn’t work…
