:Music News: Rally and Sustain: The Cracknation Documentary
Last months Coldwaves show was a big success and in part Jamie’s loss has brought so many unique things to the surface. Our scene at least here in the Midwest feels closer than it has in years and we’ve seen the return of bands like The Clay People who hold a special place in my heart. But it also has brought to light a documentary call Rally and Sustain: The Cracknation Documentary. (more…)

Cold Waves: The Jamie Duffy Memorial Show
September 7, 2012
Chicago, Illinois @ Bottom Lounge
Review by: Clif Bratcher
Like many other fans who came out for the amazing lineup featured at Cold Waves, I didn’t personally know Jamie Duffy. But as the night progressed, I started to feel as if I was on the extreme outer edge of this incredible family. By the end of the show, the bands were playing to a sold-out venue, and I was fighting back tears for all of the love flooding out for everyone there physically and in spirit. In short, the audience at Cold Waves was given one of the greatest industrial shows in years. (more…)

:Music News: Metropolis Records June 2012 Releases
HOLY COW June is shaping up to be one crazy month over at Metropolis Records. Not only do they have a slew of new releases coming out but they have officially signed Skinny Puppy! Yep you read that right the mighty Puppy are now on Metropolis Records! A perfect home I say. Not only that they are reissuing perhaps one of the most important coldwave albums of the 90′s 16Volt’s LetDownCrush. I spent hours standing in my dorm room air guitaring to this record pretending to be Eric Powell in front of 30 people rocking out. While Skin introduced the world to 16Volt, LetDownCrush made it obvious they were the next big thing. So here is Metropolis’s line up for June 2012:
June 12th:
Skinny Puppy: Bootlegged, Broke and in Solvent Seas.
Assemblage 23: Bruise (Limited Edition)
iVardenspher: I Dream in Noise Remixes: Vol. 2
June 26th:
16Volt: LetDownCrush (Reissue)
Suicide Commando: The Suicide Sessions II

Review by: Gabe Wilkinson
Last year Chris DeMarcus and Kerry Alexis Peterson along with Galen Whalin and Craig Jensen dropped their machine rock debut on WTII records with America Bleeding. A heavy record with more akin to the metal side of the industrial coin than the electronic side, but a killer slab of coldwave none the less and a perfect compliment to anyone’s music collection. Review by: Tiffany Angeney
Matt Fanale has never been one to settle for just one thing. Like a kid in an ice cream shop, his eyes get all big when considering artists to work with. Somewhat controversial (his lyrics are generally considered shocking, if humorous) his career as a musician began in 2002 when he started Caustic (the band name being the only suggestion his then girlfriend, now wife, liked) and he enjoys bringing in other musicians to collaborate and perform live with. Over the past nine years, he has released eight albums and EPs on Crunch Pod, independently himself and now on Metropolis Records. His latest album, The Golden Vagina of Fame and Profit, was even the top seller on Metropolis Mail Order for a time this past spring. But now, having gotten beyond the kid in the ice cream shop salivating, Matt Fanale chose twenty-two artist to rework some of his songs for the digital only release Douche Ex Machina remix album. KMFDM, Army of the Universe, and 16Volt w/ Human Factors Lab
August 8, 2011
Tempe, Arizona, United States @ The Clubhouse
Review by: Dawne Flanagan
After slaving all Sunday making tutus for the Oontzcast girls and myself, I drove to Cubel’s palce to get ready fro the “zomgitsfuckingfree†KMFDM show. We did up our faces (I even put on lashes) and donned out tutus and rushed like crazy people to get to the venue, The Clubhouse, because we’d gotten a call from fellow COMA monkey, Noelle, warning us that the place had a huuuge line outside. We arrived, tulle a-flurry, to a line, but nothing that was going to immediately pack the place. Bear in mind that Phoenix has a relatively small industrial scene, and while KMFDM appeals to a great cross section of metal & rivetheads, there was still plenty of room for everyone when we got there 30 minutes before the doors opened. Honestly, I was surprised by that. I mean, “OMFGKMFDM,†but it was a Monday night show, so likely all the “lucky†bastards who had jobs were still changing into their Slayer t-shirts, beat up jeans, and boots after escaping their cubicles slash convenience stores slash glorified mall rat positions. :Podcast: The Oontzcast – Episode 30
Holy Freaking Bejezus! There are now officially 30 episode of the most awesome podcast in the universe! And episode 30 is one totally crazy nerd-tastic episode at that. The Oontz gals just couldn’t make up their mind, so there are two songs from The Gothsicles as well the new track from God Module. While we are still pissed Christina didn’t kidnap Felicia Day for us during her trip to Comic Con, she does discuss her six days in nerd heaven.
We certainly hope you will enjoy this week’s madness!

Sinister Whisperz Tour

Baltimore, Maryland, United States @ The Quarter @ Bourbon Street
Review by: William Dashiell Hammett
It was a night of contrasts when Twitch the Ripper, 16Volt and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult took the stage in Baltimore–musically, aesthetically and demographically.
Opening the gig was a Harrisburg, PA based group called DeathMachine whom played some downright heavy industrial metal. Â While still young and needing fine-tuning, they definitely showed potential as they played to a pretty small gathering. (more…)

16Volt – Beating Dead Horses
Release Date:Â May 10, 2011
Label: Metropolis

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett
Eric Powell founded 16Volt in 1991 and has slowly but relentlessly built a name as one of the top industrial rock bands in the scene. With six original, two compilations and appearances in video games and films, 16Volt is releasing their latest effort, Beating Dead Horses, on Metropolis Records. And while the term “beating a dead horses” generally means is an idiom that means to continue in any endeavor is a waste of time as the outcome is already decided, this album is most certainly not a waste of time and perhaps 16Volt’s best effort to date. :Concert Review: Caustic Does Kinetik (Part 2) – A special guest review
Reviewed by Matt Fanale
THURSDAY, MAY 13TH
The next morning we rolled out of bed and got picked up and taken to the venue with all of our gear. I dropped off my CDs and other non-shirt merch with Rev John and the industrialshirts.com crew (who put together the ltd Kinetik Caustic shirts for the fest for me) and then proceeded to get ready to soundcheck. ..
…which unfortunately got going late due to several factors. I’ll only address this once, as anyone reading this may have heard the timing fiasco that ensued Thursday—it wasn’t any one person or one band that fucked everything up. It was, in fact, several factors that added up to the music getting started 90 minutes or so late. Mostly I’ll just blame it on the fest being overly ambitious with wanting to maximize bands on the roster and not anticipating the time bands needed to soundcheck and change over set-ups.
