Absolute Body Control is one of those early 80′s acts that many may not be aware of, but you will know the members, Dirk Iven and Eric Van Wonterghem (who joined in 1981 to replace Mark de Jonghe on synths), from the various projects they have had their long reaching hands in (together and/or separate); The Klinik, Insekt, Monolith, Dive, Blok 57 & Sonar. ABC (for typing shorthand of Absolute Body Control) gives us a great audio history of their works on this album ranging from 1981 to 2008. Late 70′s influence of the likes of Suicide is quite evident within the repetitive synth percussion and melody. My most difficult issue with this album is the fact that it created nostalgia for me and I kept drifting away instead of actually trying to put this work to words…on that note, please be patient. FRIDAY, MAY 14TH

We popped into the venue having gotten a free pass on soundcheck since, well, we did it on Thursday. ALICEFFEKT was already on stage and it was already an auspicious start to the day’s music—4 people on stage, with 2 twiddling on laptops, a woman playing cello, and a dude with the best Asian guy mullet I’ve ever seen on guitar. It’s the sign of a good fest that even the opening bands kick some butt, and the small but enthusiastic crowd really enjoyed them. (more…)
