Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

PMP_cover_500pxI’ve written quite a bit about Ayria. The Canadian Electro-Industrial Razor sharp plastic queen has always been a favorite of mine and, for that matter, all of us here at COMA—our first (and so far only) artist-dedicated week was in Jennifer Parkin’s honor. I personally have been waiting for Plastic Makes Perfect for a very long time. It’s been almost two years since Jennifer first told me about it. So when I finally got it into my greedy ears, I had certain, pretty lofty, expectations. It was with some trepidation that I pressed play on my computer as I have been disappointed by other highly anticipated albums recently. With Plastic Makes Perfect, however, what I heard is easily Jennifer’s best work yet. (more…)

Review by Grant V. Ziegler

cynical existence come out and play  One would think it’s only a matter of time before Fredrik Croona would release something that sucks. But from his days in Menschdefekt, to Project Rotten and now his solo effort, Cynical Existence, Croona has been a consistent driving force in the Harsh/EBM scene. And after releasing two intense and ear-catching EPs within a calendar year, it was time for Cynical Existence to release a full-length album and bestow another grand musical experience upon us all. Review by: Grant V. Ziegler

The Alfa Matrix record label is home to many current, past, and up-and-coming industrial artists. Since its inception, Alfa Matrix has strived to give struggling and established artists a chance to flourish in this dying music market. And on October 26th, Alfa Matrix released its sixth installment of the Endzeit Bunkertracks compilation. This gargantuan music-festival-in-a-box seems to grow with each and every release, and this time it contains four separate CDs comprised of 68 tracks and five hours of music. (more…)

From Menschdefekt to Project Rotten and now his solo project Cynical Existence, you can always count on Fredrik Croona to deliver a nefarious and dark experience. Cynical Existence’s most recent release, Ruined Portrait (EP), is no exception. The band’s first album, A Familiar Kind of Pain, was released earlier this year in June, and just a few months later, Croona felt ready to unleash another demon into the musical world. (more…)

Freakangel – Let It All End

Review By: Grant V. Ziegler

Let It All End
sees Freakangel go in a different direction from their previous album Faults of Humanity, while staying true to their alternative industrial core sound. The group trades in the typical bounce their music seems to carry for a more bitter and bloodier tone. Right off the bat you get sucked into the album by grinding synths and growling vocals on the opening track “Erasing the Distance.”
Enhancing the album’s overall sexiness are the guest vocals performed by PSY’AVIAH’S Emelie Nicolai. Her sweetness fused with the sour of D. Darling’s vocal style make for a lustful blend of auditory madness on tracks like “Porcelain Doll” and “Mutual Forms of Bleeding.” (more…)

Review by: Jeremy Davey

Blasting in like a cold wind out of the Netherlands is the latest release (Maschinenwesen) from that country’s electro/industrial/gothic visionaries, Schwarzblut. Maschinenwesen is an album packed full of variety, imagination, and spectacular sounds. One minute you’re getting throttled by the buzzsaw industrial smashing of songs like “Schlusspoetik”, with it’s harsh but not over-processed vocals, and the next minute you’re listening to the beautiful voice of Angelika belting out the beautifully moving ballad “Der schere Abend”. :Music News: Psy’Aviah Experiments With The Social Consciousness

Never one to not take a risk, Vocalist Emélie Nicolaï, guitarist Kristof De Clerck and producer / composer Yves Schelpe better know as the Electro-Industrial group Psy’Aviah performed a little experiment on their fellow Belgians. Like superb social scientists they documented their experiment on video.

Check out their explanation:

Life can become a colorless routine.. So we decided ‘t was time for an experiment, of sorts… We placed envelopes and other packages with strange or mysterious writing on different places in the city. Hidden in those envelopes were one of our CDs and a note, thanking the “lucky finders” for the “risk” of opening that package… (more…)

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

The duo of Nysrok Infernalien and Nightstalker were brought together by their mutual interest in Jam Montoya, BDSM, drugs and the concept of putting this all together and sonically challenging their audience. With a string of four full-length releases, two EPs and appearances on several compilations, it seems their audience’s thirst for what AV terms “Obscene Industrial” and “Evil Body Music” is strong. Their latest EP, Clubbers Die Younger should keep their audience satiated. (more…)

Review by: Zander Buel

Hot off the success of 2010’s critically acclaimed Moving On, Erica Dunham, better known as Unter Null, has released a startling deviation from the Unter Null sound to display a softer, more somber aspect of her creativity: Letting Go, under the project name Stray. Creating a follow-up to two popular albums in the aggrotech scene is no easy feat. The pressure of creating an album that satisfies fans without treading the same ground is high. Fans and critics have placed her under the microscope. Fortunately, Letting Go goes the full nine yards of satisfaction and then some. (more…)

I apologize as I crawl out from under my rock since I seem to be one of the few people not very aware of the act Psy’Aviah. I spent over a week delving into their newest release from Alfa Matrix, a limited edition 2CD with the new album on the first and a slew of remixes (and more, keep reading) on the second. I promptly lifted that rock I was under and bashed myself a bit for never getting into this diverse entity. I use the term entity due to the fact that Psy’Aviah is much more than just another band, since this release is so new and they already have videos from this album uploaded for your eye candy pleasure. Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

Formed when Jean-Luc de Meyer heard an Implant track from fellow Belgian musicians Len Lemeire and Jan D’Hooghe. A conceptual sci-fi project reflecting life on Earth in 2112, 32CRASH have returned with their second effort, Y2112Y. Billed as a “project of FRONT 242 lead-singer”, it was with some excitement that I downloaded this promo. And while there are some Front 242ish type tracks on the album, there is more to it then just an attempt to emulate what is arguably one of the best industrial/ebm outfits of all time. In fact it took more than one listen to really develop an appreciation for Y2112Y. (more…)

Review by: Review by: Tiffany Angeney

In 2004, Chemnitz based DJ Pedro Engel founded the project ACYLUM. The East German’s first full-length album Your Pain was released on X-Cem Records in 2005. The frequent and fanatical use of provocative samples staged huge controversy mainly in the German press. Pedro followed up with Mental Disorder on Rupal Records in 2007 and The Enemy on Alfa Matrix in 2009. After a long wait Karzinom is set to be released this Friday on Alfa-Matrix. (more…)

Aiboforcen – Dédale
Released: October 28, 2011
Label: Alfa Matrix
Website: facebook.com/Aiboforcen

Review by: Neska Lapicki

After 7 years of silence, Aiboforcen have returned in 2011 with a new full length album. Dédale is possessed of an understated power that sneaks up on you in such a way that you don’t realize how far you’ve been drawn in until you turn to go. Richly textured and complex, the album flows through multiple electronic genres with ease and precision. The overall feel of the album is mid-tempo and groovy, but it doesn’t just hit that note and stay there. Well placed samples and interesting rhythms continuously appear and disappear and re-appear throughout the album, while multiple styles of both male and female vocals ensure you’ll never really know what to expect next. Side-Line is a name known throughout the electronic music scene regardless of the sub-genre, whether in reverence or contempt (and lets face it, someone out there doesn’t like them), it is not for this writer to say.  While both Side-Line and COMA report on similar topics, we aren’t really in competition.  Of course, Side-Line’s connection to Alfa Matrix does provide them unparalleled access to certain artists and an unsurpassed status as an industry insider.  For awhile, they had been announcing the imminent release of a digital only free compilation that was released in the beginning of July.
