:CD Review: Dead Hand Projekt – The Lost EP

Dead Hand Projekt – The Lost EP
Release Date: March 13, 2012
Label: Vendetta Music
Website: deadhandprojekt.com

Review by: Amy Reynolds

Since the inauguration of the self-titled Dead Hand Projekt album released in 2010, DHP has continually progressed and expanded. It has been a genuine pleasure watching the project develop right before my eyes. Though there is only one EP between the debut and this upcoming release, the band doesn’t leave you without a strong sense of where Dead Hand Projekt is coming from or how big it is going to get. The only thing it leaves you with is a desire for more. (more…)

Vic Anselmo – In My Fragile…
Release Date: August 19, 2011
Label: Danse Macabre Records
Website: vicanselmo.com

Review by Amy Reynolds

In 2008 Vic Anselmo debuted with Trapped in a Dream, with a shocking response from listeners and music media alike. She ranked high on various charts all over the internet. It has been two years since then and we have finally received her second release, In My Fragile…. Before I go into describing this album to you in the best way I can, let me tell you that it is incomparable and indescribable. I highly recommend listening to this album because there is really no way to describe it to you that does it justice. It is one of the most original albums I have heard in years with a sequence of songs and emotions that flow almost as exquisite as the artist’s voice. (more…)

For any classic Gothic Rock fans who love bands akin to Bauhaus and The Birthday Party, there is a new beast moving into the scene.  The Tunnel is one of those rare gems that has been playing in various dives in their local community of San Francisco, with a few performances in Oakland, Sacramento, Long Beach and Durango, CO.  They have recently released their second recorded album, Fathom’s Deep, a medley of Gothic Rock and No Wave. :CD Review: The Birthday Massacre – Pins and Needles

The Birthday Massacre – Pins and Needles
Released: September 14, 2010
Label: Metropolis Records
Band Website: thebirthdaymassacre.com

Review by Amy Reynolds

Nearly a year and a half since their release of Show and Tell, The Birthday Massacre released Pins and Needles on September 14, 2010.  Maintaining their seminal sound, which can only be described as a fusion of metal, pop, rock, and synth, they have delivered an 11 track CD, congruent with their eerily sweet story telling fashion.  As with all their previous music, macabre visions dance in ones head while listening to this new album.

My absolute favorite song from the album would have to be “Control”.  It is a very fun dance song that can be easily played at a club.  It is also the only song that Chibi uses that low guttural growl in her vocals that she has used in the past. (more…)

State of COMA Music Magazine

2010 was quite a year for COMA Music Magazine. Mid year is when we really got focused and switched to our current format while ditching metal, punk, etc…  It was decided to focus on the music we really love and just cover goth, industrial and related sub-genres of music and the culture surrounding it. At the same time, it was decided to move the site to a more blog like platform ending up, for better or worse, on tumblr. We finally gave up on MySpace and gave in to Facebook, saw the comeback of one of our original reviewers, AMY REYNOLDS, who brought her boyfriend, MICHAEL FARIES, into the mix and WILLIAM DASHIELL HAMMETT joined as a reviewer and feature writer. We also had a few artists in the scene like MATT FANALE of Caustic,  REXX ARKANA of FGFC820 and DON ANDERSON of Terror Firma Sky to write guest reviews for us, allowing us to cover events outside our normal range. Review by Amy Reynolds

Android Lust has returned with a new release after their nearly five year break away from the music scene.  No longer releasing under the Projekt Records label, Shikhee (the singer/songwriter for the band) decided to create her own label by the name of Synthetic Music.  The Human Animal, which released August 10th, combines elements of industrial, trip-hop, and gothic music with synthesized sound and live instrumentation, producing a collective group of songs with an eclectic resonance.

:Concert Review: VNV Nation- Faith, Power, and Glory Tour

VNV Nation – Faith, Power, and Glory Tour
Guest opener:  System Syn
March 30, 2010
Pop’s Small Room – Sauget, IL

Review by: Amy Reynolds

VNV Nation is a music group that is a must see when they tour. With the combination of Ronan Harris’ lyrics and Mark Jackson’s music talent, these two are sure to put on a superbly entertaining performance. This concert was no exception.

The venue was impressive. Pop’s is an indoor facility with a full bar, darts, pool, restrooms, plenty of floor space, tables situated in the rear of the floor, and a closed in beer garden. Though not very large, it did not lack space for the guests. The building was clean and the staff was very friendly. A food stand was parked at the front entrance with a selection broad enough to sate anyone’s appetite.

:CD Review: Dead Hand Projekt – (Self Titled)

Dead Hand Projekt – (Self Titled)
Released: August 17, 2010
Label: Vendetta Music
Band Website:www.deadhandprojekt.com

Review by Amy Reynolds

Dead Hand ProjektPower noise, per Wikipedia, is defined as “a fusion genre among noise music and various styles of electronic dance music.”  There is a new beast in the genre who is going devour the competition.

Dead Hand Projekt, Taury Goforth’s latest music group, began working together early this year.  It was originally comprised of Tim Miller of No Last Resort, Taury Goforth, and Jason Scamara.  Their self titled debut album releases August 17th with pre-orders available at vendetta-music.com at an affordable $10.  Do not let the price depreciate the quality of this CD.  It is easily well worth the Hamilton. :CD Review: Dawn of Ashes – The Crypt Injection

Dawn of Ashes – The Crypt Injection
Released: October 25, 2007
Label: COP International
Band Website:www.dawnofashes.com

Review by Amy Reynolds
California based Dawn of Ashes has released their second full length album, “The Crypt Injection”, after remaining silent for nearly a year. They have remained cohesive in their theme of hate, horror, and violence; treating the assemblage to mix of synth, drums, and goblin-like vocals.

“A Blade in the Dark” begins with a synthesised drum beat and starts us off with a news broadcast of a mass murderer, taking us quickly into a song meant for the dance floor. The vocals are dark and murderous, transforming you into the mindset of one such as Jeffrey Dahmer or Hannibal Lecter. (more…)
