The most intriguing characteristic of Android Lust’s mastermind, Shikhee D’iordna, is how she slides into the industrial genre without seeming to take direct influence from any current or past trends that have crowded it. Moreover, if you set aside D’iordna’s subtle vocal acrobatics of possessed whispering and frantic screaming, which are present in every album, each release since her 1998 debut has shown startling growth, utilizing synthesizer textures in experimental fashion. The Oontzcast’s monthly Flashback episode for December focuses on the year 1998 which was a great year of music. J and Christina talk about all the interesting things that happened in 1998 and play great tracks from that year. And since it is the first episode of December, there is also a new album pick of the month!

The fine folks of Android Lust have decided to hold a contest to design some wallpaper to be featured on their site. Details are as follows:
Android Lust has returned with a new release after their nearly five year break away from the music scene. Â No longer releasing under the Projekt Records label, Shikhee (the singer/songwriter for the band) decided to create her own label by the name of Synthetic Music. Â The Human Animal, which released August 10th, combines elements of industrial, trip-hop, and gothic music with synthesized sound and live instrumentation, producing a collective group of songs with an eclectic resonance.
First off, this is a biased review. I’ve been a fan of Android Lust’s music for years. I consider Shikhee’s vision and output some of the most original in our little scene— she gives me chills the way PJ Harvey does. She’s raw and honest and that’s just damn appealing to me in a scene that generates a lot of clones and artists that only play at the kinds of songs Android Lust creates.
