Resistanz – International Industrial Music Festival 2012

Saturday as it was opening day was a bit like ‘browsing day’. As we arrived we went to walk around the stalls in the newly opened large area dedicated to all the clothes and accessories stalls selling their wares; plus bands merchandise and photography stalls for everybody to have their professional pictures taken, tables and chairs to rest and chat for a while. :CD Review: Be My Enemy – This is the New Wave

Be My Enemy – This is the New Wave
Released: October 26, 2010
Label: Bit Riot Records

Review by William Dashiell Hammett
Phil Barry started his Be My Enemy project in 2008 almost ten years after his previous band, Cubanate, split.  Barry admits that he “wasted a lot of time” during that span, not even picking up a guitar for several years.  He did release several dance records, some under his own name and others with DJ Jim Masters as String Theory.  Ten years out of the spotlight can be an eternity in the fast paced and extremely fickle music business, but with the Be My Enemy’s full-length album debut, This is the New Wave, Barry returns with bang.

The album opens with the no-nonsense track “The New Wave”.  With its gloomy sample intro, a steady beat and heavy guitar riff the song explodes and hits you up side the head.  The almost punk lyrical style fits perfectly with the semi-autobiographical lyrics.  The distorted samples and various other electronics keep this song moving and it is easy to find yourself moving forward with it.
