:Music News: C/A/T is Back

From Mr. Ben Arp himself!

Yes, I’m bringing it back.

No, I don’t know when the next album will come out. I’m guessing at some point in 2013. I have literally no plans yet and the two tracks on the (A)WAKE single I linked on this page have nothing to do with the album.

No, I won’t be releasing on a revitalized Crunch Pod and I have no desire to ever run a record label ever again – I stand behind that 100%. I am as of 2012 “unsigned” and will most likely self-release when things are ready.

No, I am not giving up my Ben Arp and Captive Six projects – both have releases in production (nearly finished in the case of Captive Six). Since I’m not having to do “behind the scenes” business stuff for 10 other artists I have time to actually work on music again.

“But you said…”. I say lots of things.

Get your happy hats on now!

COMA Music Magazine Fundraiser 2012

So what is this fundraiser all about? Well, we have shot all our live footage with the same $200 camera for the last five years and now that camera is starting to fail. This presents the perfect opportunity to upgrade to hi def for more awesome videos and the camera I have found? Holy shit is it perfect for live footage.

In addition to that, US Airways busted the main lens I shoot live photography with when we went to Cyber Genetic Winter Fest so that needs to be replaced as well. So that, in a nutshell is what we are trying to accomplish here. Take a look at the incentives and be ready because it goes live at 10am MST March 14th, 2012.

Favourite Releases

Well, there have been a few really kickfuckingass albums this year. Lots of established artists bringing out new material, and a few new turks making their presence known. If I had to choose the albums that did it for me though this year, it would have to be Surgyn’s “Vanity” and KMFDM’s WTF! (more…)

:Feature: Crunch Pod Retrospective

Crunch Pod.

Even to those whom are unaware of the label, the name evokes a specific image of primitive edginess (the Crunch) and, at the same time, sleek modernity (the Pod). Founded in 1998 by Ben Arp, Crunch Pod served as the incubator for artists like Caustic, Manufactura, Bitch Brigade, Uberbyte, Polluted Axis, Ben Arp’s own C/A/T and many many more. Originally a traditional label, in that they had a business plan similar to many of the major record companies and released actual physical CDs, Crunch Pod transitioned to a digital only label in 2010 a move brought on by the many changes to the music industry during the thirteen years of the label’s existence. When the label was founded, there was no bandcamp, SoundCloud, Pandora, etc…, social network sites like Facebook and MySpace didn’t exist and it wasn’t until a year later that those who were “computer savvy” could use the original Napster. It was another three years from the label’s birth to the release of the first 5 GB iPod, when the digital music revolution was effectively launched.

Guest: Ben Arp of C/A/T, Captive Six, Ben Arp and Crunch Pod Records

If you didn’t get to listen in this Tuesday, you really need to download this episode as we hear from Ben Arp and the new compilation off his label Crunch Pod Records: Justicia Pro Bestia. Justicia Pro Bestia (Justice for Animals) is a collection of artists who believe that animals deserve their own rights and much more. All the proceeds from the sale of this digital compilation will be donated to The Animal Legal Defense Fund. Along with promoting this great album (of which I play 6 songs ) Ben goes on to let us know about the upcoming new releases coming out on Crunch Pod this Fall, and also the upcoming releases with his own projects. If this is not a good enough reason to listen, just get this to hear me literally trip over my own tongue in trying to introduce Ben Arp in the interview. Really stompy set with new music from Gothsicles, Alien Vampires, Manufactura and Uberbyte to name just a few.

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

Since 1979 The Animal Legal Defense Fund have been fighting for animal rights, domestic and wild, by working to improve and expand laws protecting animals and to help make penalties against animal abusers much tougher.  In association with Crunch Pod, the electronic music label founded by Ben Arp, comes the compilation album Justicia Pro Bestia containing 24 previously unreleased songs and/or remixes from an exceptionally diverse group of artists from across the spectrum of electronic music.

:News: Crunch Pod Annouces JUSTICIA PRO BESTIA Charity Compilation

Throughout much of the United States animals have about as many rights as a piece of furniture. There are more laws protecting your car then there are for animals. They are considered nothing more than “property” and do not deserve any rights. People who abuse them usually get little to no punishment for the suffering they cause.   It’s time for that to change. C/A/T – Music To Piss YOU Off

Review by William Dashiell Hammett

Ben Arp’s aggrotech project, C/A/T (AKA Chaos and Terror), began back in 1998 and almost ended in 2010.  Rather then end the band as announced in early October, Arp has turned a corner and has passed through the “worst two years of my life”.  So lucky for us, C/A/T will continue as an active project and we are being treated with Music To Piss YOU Off, a “Best Of” album with the tracks selected based on a fan poll.  If you buy directly from Crunch Pod the label will also include eight remixes chosen by Arp himself.
