The Alfa Matrix record label is home to many current, past, and up-and-coming industrial artists. Since its inception, Alfa Matrix has strived to give struggling and established artists a chance to flourish in this dying music market. And on October 26th, Alfa Matrix released its sixth installment of the Endzeit Bunkertracks compilation. This gargantuan music-festival-in-a-box seems to grow with each and every release, and this time it contains four separate CDs comprised of 68 tracks and five hours of music. (more…)

Eisbrecher – Die Hölle muss warten
Released: February 14, 2012
Label: Metropolis Records
Website: eis-brecher.com

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

What can one say about Eisbrecher, one of the most visible representatives of what has been termed Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness)? Started in 2003 after Alexx Wesselsky left his previous project Megaherz and joined up with another former Megaherz member Noel Pix, they burst onto the scene with their self titled debut album followed by stronger selling Antikörper. Their third album, Sünde had the best showing reaching number one on the DAC. 2010’s Eiszeit reached number five on the German charts and, besides being on this reviewer’s Best of 2010 list, made the charts in Austria, Swizerland and European Top 100. So obviously, it was with some anticipation that I received Die Hölle muss warten and I can say I am not disappointed. (more…)

:Review: The Birthday Massacre – Imaginary Monsters

The Birthday Massacre – Imaginary Monsters
Release Date: August 9, 2011
Label: Metropolis
Website: http://www.thebirthdaymassacre.com

Review by: Mary Bauer

It’s amazing that a band can land in the Top 10 on Billboards Heatseekers chart and still be relatively unknown in the United States. Hopefully with the release of their EP, Imaginary Monsters, Canadian act The Birthday Massacre can attract some new fans that are weary to commit to a full length album. If you are a fan of the CW show The Vampire Diaries you have already heard TBM in several episodes.

Currently working on a follow up to 2010’s, Pins and Needles, the band will be release Imaginary Monsters on August 9, 2011 on Metropolis Records. While it is easy, and lazy, to categorize TBM under the all encompassing Industrial umbrella, it isn’t fair to the band or the music they produce. iTunes themselves has them listed under alternative, rock and industrial; with industrial listed under electronic. The Birthday Massacre is one of those rare bands that incorporate several genres to create a sound that is at the same time distinctive and unique yet accessible to fans across the musical spectrum. :News: The Birthday Massacre Imaginary Monsters EP Due August 9th

THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE
Release IMAGINARY MONSTERS EP on August 9th

Featuring New Songs, “In the Dark” video and Remixes By Combichrist, SKOLD, tweaker, Kevvy Mental & Dave Ogilvie, and Assemblage 23!

“The title was partially inspired by some of the doubts and fears we’ve had to face and overcome throughout the past year,” says guitarist/programmer Rainbow of the band THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE about their new EP IMAGINARY MONSTERS which comes out on Metropolis Records on August 9, 2011. “You could also say it refers to the unique mix of songs and remixes on the EP. However, to be honest, I think we just liked the fact that ‘ Imaginary Monsters’ brings to mind all kinds of scary, beautiful, terrible, and wonderful things. We really like those kinds of things.”

Rammstein 2011 North American Tour
May 21, 2011
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States @ Thomas & Mack Center

Review by: Tiffany Angeney

Jealous of our Lovely Dawne and our awesome DJ Glitchmode hitting the Kinetik Festival this year Christina and I decided to go see Rammstein in Vegas with CombiChrist. As most of you fans know Rammstein was banned from America about 10 years ago. This was the bands first time back in the states and they only played 4 shows. Christina and I made sure and pre bought our tickets! It was well worth the money!

So our boss J, Co-worker Esali and a friend John decided to tag along. We left Saturday morning (our boss J was actually on time.. for once) with snacks, booze and a gigantic Pink Stuffed Unicorn named Santiago. Fours hours in, a few drinks later and a photo op with Santiago a stop was made at a crazy rest stop for Area 51. 6 hours in and we FINALLY made it to Vegas. (more…)

Monsters on Tour II with Special Guest Angelspit
May 3, 2011
Baltimore, Maryland, United States @ The Quarter @ Bourbon Street

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

One thing, above all else, was confirmed on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Baltimore: Andy LaPlegua is a showman, knowing exactly what to do to get the most response from his audience.

The night, as all nights in Baltimore, started slowly.  The crowd drifting in gradually as the first opening act, Star Killer, took to the stage.  Based out of Brooklyn, New York, Star Killer served the purpose of an opener.  Other then playing a decidedly hard style of music, best described as hard rock; they aren’t quite the genre fit one would have expected to be opening for some of the top aggressive Electro acts in the scene. Combichrist – Making Monsters
Released: September 28, 2010
Label: Metropolis Records
Band Website: www.combichrist.com

Review by Michael Faries

The latest full-length album from Combichrist, Making Monsters, is out.  If you don’t have it yet, do yourself a favor and go get it.  If you’re already a Combichrist fan, there won’t be a whole lot of big surprises for you on this one.  Andy LaPlegua continues his experiment with all of the key ingredients that you’ve come to expect from it:  1 cup industrial, 1 tbsp techno, an unhealthy splash of screams, and an (seemingly) unhealthier pinch of toned-down vocals full of potential energy.

LaPlegua passes the mic to start off the album.  The song “Follow the Trail of Blood” has a fairly slow tempo, but is loud and obnoxious courtesy of  Bleeding Through vocalist Brandon Schiepatti.  Schiepatti’s screams fit so well with the music on this one, the listener ignorant of the liner notes surely will assume LaPlegua to be behind the mic.

Reviewed by Matt Fanale

FRIDAY, MAY 14TH

We popped into the venue having gotten a free pass on soundcheck since, well, we did it on Thursday. ALICEFFEKT was already on stage and it was already an auspicious start to the day’s music—4 people on stage, with 2 twiddling on laptops, a woman playing cello, and a dude with the best Asian guy mullet I’ve ever seen on guitar. It’s the sign of a good fest that even the opening bands kick some butt, and the small but enthusiastic crowd really enjoyed them. (more…)

Dawn of Ashes – The Crypt Injection
Released: October 25, 2007
Label: COP International
Band Website:www.dawnofashes.com

Review by Amy Reynolds
California based Dawn of Ashes has released their second full length album, “The Crypt Injection”, after remaining silent for nearly a year. They have remained cohesive in their theme of hate, horror, and violence; treating the assemblage to mix of synth, drums, and goblin-like vocals.

“A Blade in the Dark” begins with a synthesised drum beat and starts us off with a news broadcast of a mass murderer, taking us quickly into a song meant for the dance floor. The vocals are dark and murderous, transforming you into the mindset of one such as Jeffrey Dahmer or Hannibal Lecter. (more…)
