The past year wasn’t particularly outstanding for me as far as music goes. Probably because I took a step back and didn’t pay as much attention as I had been. So I almost certainly missed a thing or two in addition to what normally goes beyond my ken. Generally, my year-end reviews, like all my reviews, are long winded and doubtless overflowing with needless extravagance of language. So this year, I’m going to keep sweet but I can’t say short as I’m sure there will still be a needless extravagance of language. (more…)

Starting over 20 years ago with a string of albums that are generally credited with defining the Neue Deutsche Härte sub-genre of European Industrial Metal, few would doubt the trio’s music is as equally aggressive as the tone of their appellation. While not nearly as popular as their genre mates Rammstein and (perhaps) Eisbrecher, their music has always challenged the mainstream’s opinion and pushed the boundaries. With their latest release Des Wahnsinns fette Beute Oomph! chose to completely ignore those boundaries and start fresh, ignoring the formula they had established on their previous ten albums. In this reviewer’s opinion, they have only cemented their position as the preeminent NDH group and status as one of the most creative outfits in the music business today. (more…)
