:Music Review: Various Artists – Electronic Saviors Volume II Recurrence

Various Artists – Electronic Saviors Volume II Recurrence
Release Date: May 8, 2012
Label: Metropolis Records
Website: electronicsaviors.com

Review by: DeVico

Jim Semonik is back with the second compilation installment of Electronic Saviors and this time, the ceiling has been lifted to become an even huger and massive compilation. With proceeds going to at least two charities: Gilda’s Club/Cancer Support Community and The Bone Marrow Foundation you get the chance to help others and build your music library. ES Volume 1 was a sold out product on Metropolis Records and with good fortune, I am hoping they have the same scenario with ES Volume 2. The premium edition of ES 2 comes with six CD’s and two digital discs. This compilation clocks at 142 tracks with over 10 hours of play. Seriously, this is a juggernaut of music. (more…)

Various Artists – CRL Studios Presents: The Second Wavelength (Light) & (Dark)
Release Date: September 1, 2011
Label: CRL Studios
Website: crlstudio.com

Review by: DeVico

These two compilations are sold separately yet I have made the decision to bundle them together for this review because, well, they really compliment each other and, for being a donation based purchase, you cannot go wrong buying them both. Straight from the CRL Studios website: “this is a donation based release to help support continued releases from CRL Studios and to showcase some of the promising artists we have had the pleasure of working with and getting to know over the last few years.” The roster of bands on these compilations is a bit of an eye opener with labels being represented such as Crunchpod, Tympanik Audio, Ant Zen, Dope Records, DSBP, Aphotic, Displacer and a fistful of unsigned bands. Put these two albums together and you have 46 tracks that take you across the board of IDM, break beat, glitch, industrial, and for the level genre, electronic. The one word that I found missing on the bandcamp website for these downloads and the one phrase I think that really sums these compilations up is cinematic.

inline.seX.terror – The Architecture of Madness
Released: September 30, 2011
Label: DSBP/Minus Beat
Website: inlinesexterror.com

Review by: Michael Faries

Artist inline.seX.terror (IST, for short…and ease of type) is back with its second full-length attempt to grab your attention with a release entitled The Architecture of Madness. For your information’s sake, IST is a self-proclaimed ‘Horror Industrial’ act that consists of a single studio member named DV/H, along with a plethora of live members that includes female fetish dancers (I’m sure there’s a joke about an instrument here, but I wouldn’t dare.). With a resume that includes DJing in Greece for ten years, as well as working as a promoter/organizer of shows in Athens that included quite a few well-known Industrial bands, DV/H is back with this release to again show us what he’s made of.
