:Concert Review: Kinetik Festival Phase 02

Kinetik Festival – Phase 02
May 18, 2012
Montreal, Quebec, CA @ Le Métropolis

Review by: Christina Cubel

Kinetik Festival – Phase 02 started with my arriving in the middle of CENOTYPE’s set. The crowd was really into the music which made me wish I had not missed the start of the set. SHIV-R was up next, and I was excited to see them since I absolutely fell in love with their last album This World Erase. They played a lot off of that album and the performance was amazing! The visuals were incredible and perfectly synced with the music, and I later found out when I interviewed them that they prepared them specifically for this Kinetik performance. Watch out for that interview soon! (more…)

:Music News: Metropolis Records June 2012 Releases

HOLY COW June is shaping up to be one crazy month over at Metropolis Records. Not only do they have a slew of new releases coming out but they have officially signed Skinny Puppy! Yep you read that right the mighty Puppy are now on Metropolis Records! A perfect home I say. Not only that they are reissuing perhaps one of the most important coldwave albums of the 90′s 16Volt’s LetDownCrush. I spent hours standing in my dorm room air guitaring to this record pretending to be Eric Powell in front of 30 people rocking out. While Skin introduced the world to 16Volt, LetDownCrush made it obvious they were the next big thing. So here is Metropolis’s line up for June 2012:

June 12th:

Skinny Puppy: Bootlegged, Broke and in Solvent Seas.

Assemblage 23: Bruise (Limited Edition)

Decoded Feedback: disKonnekt

Heimataerde: Gottgleich

iVardenspher: I Dream in Noise Remixes: Vol. 2

June 26th:

16Volt: LetDownCrush (Reissue)

Suicide Commando: The Suicide Sessions II

Cesium_137: Science and Sound

Happy Shopping Everyone! And remember March is Buy Independent Music Month so pre-order these babies up today!

:Review: The Birthday Massacre – Imaginary Monsters

The Birthday Massacre – Imaginary Monsters
Release Date: August 9, 2011
Label: Metropolis

Review by: Mary Bauer

It’s amazing that a band can land in the Top 10 on Billboards Heatseekers chart and still be relatively unknown in the United States. Hopefully with the release of their EP, Imaginary Monsters, Canadian act The Birthday Massacre can attract some new fans that are weary to commit to a full length album. If you are a fan of the CW show The Vampire Diaries you have already heard TBM in several episodes.

Currently working on a follow up to 2010’s, Pins and Needles, the band will be release Imaginary Monsters on August 9, 2011 on Metropolis Records. While it is easy, and lazy, to categorize TBM under the all encompassing Industrial umbrella, it isn’t fair to the band or the music they produce. iTunes themselves has them listed under alternative, rock and industrial; with industrial listed under electronic. The Birthday Massacre is one of those rare bands that incorporate several genres to create a sound that is at the same time distinctive and unique yet accessible to fans across the musical spectrum.
