Some time ago I ran into a funny picture on the internet… I think I found it on Facebook, I know I post-ed it on my profile there. On the picture was a lot of the archetypical ‘industrial music fans’ pictured. Try-ing not to be (too) elitist, I could not suppress a smile when I saw it. For one reason or the other, this pic-ture kept popping up in front of my mind’s eye when I was listening to this album. (more…)

Review by: Zander Buel
Straight from his cell in Detroit, Klayton has released an extensive compilation of various remixes of songs he’s written over the years for his project, Celldweller. Any Celldweller fan knows that Klayton is no stranger to genre-bending, stepping out of boundaries and comfortably mashing together anything from electronic, to house, to ambient, to industrial, dubstep, drum and bass, orchestral, and even flat-out rock. The mix is always beaten out to smooth, sleek songwriting with just enough diversity and melodic hooks to captivate the listener. With a unique enough sound to begin with, how has this remix added, or perhaps taken away from, the songs it has recreated? (more…)

Review by: Debbi Baldwin
Better known as the other half of the Celldweller live show, the debut self-titled album from Blue Stahli has some rather large footsteps to follow in.
Bret, the driving force behind this solo project, hails from Detroit, Michigan, and with the production help of Celldweller’s Klayton, created something that he should definitely be proud of.
Coming from, in his own words, a background of ‘fetish burlesque troupes’ and ‘drag queen fronted punk bands’, you might expect the tracks to be disjointed and feature lots of competing genres, a sort of musical schizophrenia of just noise and confusion. However, the album could not be a more cohesive blend if it had taken all the essential components of a good album, put them together in a blender and then pressed the resulting liquid into a CD. Klayton began working on what was supposed to be the sophomore Celldweller release Wish Upon a Blackstar in 2005 and began releasing preview EPs, dubbed “Chapters†in 2009. The obvious question is of course: “What the fuck is taking so long!â€Â With the release of Chapter 04, Klayton has reaffirmed that, whatever the reason, the wait is well worth it.
The two tracks on Chapter 04, “I Can’t Wait†and “Gift For Youâ€, clock in at just under eleven and a half minutes, but they are an intense eleven and half minutes. (more…)
