:2011 Year In Review: Jeremy Pillipow (Distorted Memory) – COMA Friend

Jeremy Pillipow from Distorted Memory I have to preface this by saying that I am a music fiend. The amount of time I spend, almost daily, searching for new music borders on obsessive and possibly makes my sanity and life priorities questionable. Needless to say narrowing down my picks for this list to just two albums was next to impossible. I could easily write about ten albums released this year that had a massive impact on me, but alas the two that really made 2011 a great year for me. (more…)

:2011 Year In Review: Christina Cubel – COMA Staff

I will tell you some highlights relating to COMA starting with the album I listened to the most in 2011. (more…)

Psy’Aviah – Introspection Extrospection/Retrospection
Release Date: November 25, 2011
Label: Alfa Matrix
Website: psyaviah.com

Review by: DeVico

I apologize as I crawl out from under my rock since I seem to be one of the few people not very aware of the act Psy’Aviah. I spent over a week delving into their newest release from Alfa Matrix, a limited edition 2CD with the new album on the first and a slew of remixes (and more, keep reading) on the second. I promptly lifted that rock I was under and bashed myself a bit for never getting into this diverse entity. I use the term entity due to the fact that Psy’Aviah is much more than just another band, since this release is so new and they already have videos from this album uploaded for your eye candy pleasure. :CD Review: Aiboforcen – Dédale

Aiboforcen – Dédale
Released: October 28, 2011
Label: Alfa Matrix
Website: facebook.com/Aiboforcen

Review by: Neska Lapicki

After 7 years of silence, Aiboforcen have returned in 2011 with a new full length album. Dédale is possessed of an understated power that sneaks up on you in such a way that you don’t realize how far you’ve been drawn in until you turn to go. Richly textured and complex, the album flows through multiple electronic genres with ease and precision. The overall feel of the album is mid-tempo and groovy, but it doesn’t just hit that note and stay there. Well placed samples and interesting rhythms continuously appear and disappear and re-appear throughout the album, while multiple styles of both male and female vocals ensure you’ll never really know what to expect next. :CD Review: Leæther Strip – Untold Stories – The Melancholic Sessions

Leæther Strip – Untold Stories – The Melancholic Sessions
Release Date: October 1, 2011
Label: Self-Released
Website: Facebook.com/LeatherStrip

Review by Amy Reynolds

Leæther Strip is arguably one of the father’s of electro-industrial and today’s EBM. The juggernaut of a artist, Claus Larsen, who has been active in multiple musical groups, is closing in on Leæther Strip’s 15th full length album release this coming Saturday, October 1st, with Untold Stories – The Melancholic Sessions and the beast who has influenced icons such as :wumpscut: is still going strong. Expect a bit of a mood change with this album, however, because Untold Stories dips into Claus’ more sensual and sensitive side both musically and lyrically. Music-wise, the album takes a turn more towards Synthpop and EBM with touches of Darkwave. Though there are a few songs with that dungeon feel, they are generally softer and more suited for private quarters than in the club atmosphere. Some songs are better than others, but upon an initial listen through the entire album I was amazed from front to back. (more…)

Various Artists – Alfa Matrix Re:Covered Vol.2 – A Tribute To Depeche Mode
Release Date: 6-10-2011
Label: Alfa Matrix
Website: alfa-matrix.com
Review by: DeVico

Alfa Matrix released the first Depeche Mode tribute album back in May of 2009 with successful feedback. The label bands persisted for a second volume. Thankfully, Alfa Matrix listened and two years later we have Alfa Matrix Re:Covered Vol.2 – A Tribute To Depeche Mode. While we have many that were seen on the first volume, we now have the additions of acts such as Unter Null, Alien Vampires, Studio-X, amGod, and Diskonnekted, just to name a few. (more…)

:CD Review: The Gothsicles – Industrialites & Magic

The Gothsicles – Industrialites & Magic
Release Date: August 9th, 2011
Label: WTII Records
Website: http://www.thegothsicles.com/

Review by: Tiffany Angeney

The Gothsicles are one of the forerunners in Industrial Music for the Nerdy Masses. It all started with the Etherblister EP, self released in 2003 and progressed from there. Their first full length album, NESferatu, was released in 2006 on Sonic Mainline records. Three long years later and we got the NESferaTWO EP on WTII Records and not soon after an official album entitled Sega Lugosi’s Dead. Featured on countless compilations The Gothsicles have made quite a name for themselves in the Industrial scene, which given the context of their songs and their lyrics it is quite an impressive feat.

Now I know I’m not the best reviewer, and as nerdy as I am I just can’t keep up with all the games and movies Brian is screaming about, but I promise I will try my best! The Gothsicles are by far one of my favorite bands! I apologize now for the shameful lack of nerdiness this reviewer has. (more…)

:CD Review: Klutæ – Electro Punks Unite

Klutæ – Electro Punks Unite
Release Date: July 12, 2011
Lable: WTII Records
Website: Facebook.com/Klutae

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

Formed in 1991 as Klute, and since renamed Klutæ, has always focused on harder material than Claus Larsen’s more famous Leæther Strip. Returning 2006 after Larsen’s successful battle against depression, Klutæ shifted from a more industrial metal sound to what could best be described as Electro-industrial of a very aggressive nature and Electro Punks Unite is no exception. Brimming with hard, belligerent lyrics and angry vocal styling, Electro Punks Unite, could perhaps be one of the best EBM/Industrial albums of the year. All of the songs on this album impart deep meanings on the listener, sometimes political as in “Tell the Boys” and sometimes emotional as in “You Define Me – I Destroy You”. (more…)

:Rivet: Vigilante – The New Resistance

Vigilante – The New Resistance
Release Date: March 25, 2011
Label: Artoffact Records
Website: vigilante.cl

Review by: Michael Faries

Outspoken South American musician Ivan Munoz returned in March with a new Vigilante album, The New Resistance, pumping fists with a diverse faction of musicians from various groups ranging from Atari Teenage Riot to Public Enemy.  While-musically-that may seem like an odd mixture, the message behind the groups is the tie that binds them in The New Resistance.  And that’s what this album is all about, according to Vigilante:  “Railing against a perceived erosion of civil liberties, totalitarianism and media control, the lyrics of  The New Resistance  insist that there are still dreams to fight for, truths to be told and ideals worth dying for!” (more…)

:Podcast: The Oontzcast – Episode Nine

This episode might be a bit confusing. Christina, Tiffany and j. all make an appearance at some point.
