:2012 Year in Review: William Dashiell Hammett – COMA Reviewer

2012-doomsday The past year wasn’t particularly outstanding for me as far as music goes. Probably because I took a step back and didn’t pay as much attention as I had been. So I almost certainly missed a thing or two in addition to what normally goes beyond my ken. Generally, my year-end reviews, like all my reviews, are long winded and doubtless overflowing with needless extravagance of language. So this year, I’m going to keep sweet but I can’t say short as I’m sure there will still be a needless extravagance of language. (more…)

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

They’re German and sing in their native language. They’re from Berlin and play a keyboard-laced guitar driven music that can be termed Neue Deutsche Härte. So let’s get the Rammstein comparisons out of the way. OST+FRONT do sound like Rammstein and acknowledge the NDH style’s most famous and successful practitioner as a major influence—so for me it ends there. (more…)

Review by: William Dashiell Hammett

Oomph!

Starting over 20 years ago with a string of albums that are generally credited with defining the Neue Deutsche Härte sub-genre of European Industrial Metal, few would doubt the trio’s music is as equally aggressive as the tone of their appellation. While not nearly as popular as their genre mates Rammstein and (perhaps) Eisbrecher, their music has always challenged the mainstream’s opinion and pushed the boundaries. With their latest release Des Wahnsinns fette Beute Oomph! chose to completely ignore those boundaries and start fresh, ignoring the formula they had established on their previous ten albums. In this reviewer’s opinion, they have only cemented their position as the preeminent NDH group and status as one of the most creative outfits in the music business today. (more…)

:Music News: Stahlmann release new album Quecksilber

German electro rockers STAHLMANN have released their second album, Quecksilber, via AFM Records. Not only due to their unique appearance, STAHLMANN have become a hallmark of the German rock scene, representing a new generation of hard, German music which began in the mid 90s with pioneers like Die Krupps and Oomph!, a formula that was brought to perfection several years later by Rammstein.

To see the people as cold, steely machines that function in their daily lives and hide their emotions, is a perspective that scene pioneers Kraftwerk have been projected on our society. Founded in 2008, STAHLMANN pour this vision into their own personal artistic blast furnace, melding it into their bitter industrial sound, driving rhythms and catchy Gothic-intense melodies, yielding an alloy the ban can call their own craft. STAHLMANN worked with highly-acclaimed Jose Alvarez Brill to construct Quecksilber, the producer well-known for his productions with Wolfsheim and Blutengel. (more…)

Enjoy :)
