There, done.

It’s not like I really need to write anything else is it? If you’re reading this article and don’t know who Skinny Puppy is then you probably clicked the wrong link somewhere (in which case, be afraid, be very afraid). However, since you’re here I’ll assume you want to read something about the seminal Canadian electro-industrial progenitors and I guess it is sort of my job to provide that to justify my continued employment. :Music News: Metropolis Records June 2012 Releases

HOLY COW June is shaping up to be one crazy month over at Metropolis Records. Not only do they have a slew of new releases coming out but they have officially signed Skinny Puppy! Yep you read that right the mighty Puppy are now on Metropolis Records! A perfect home I say. Not only that they are reissuing perhaps one of the most important coldwave albums of the 90′s 16Volt’s LetDownCrush. I spent hours standing in my dorm room air guitaring to this record pretending to be Eric Powell in front of 30 people rocking out. While Skin introduced the world to 16Volt, LetDownCrush made it obvious they were the next big thing. So here is Metropolis’s line up for June 2012:

Skinny Puppy: Bootlegged, Broke and in Solvent Seas.

Assemblage 23: Bruise (Limited Edition)

Decoded Feedback: disKonnekt

DIGITAL GLITCH EPISODE 18!
THEME BASED SET: DEATH, DYING AND DEAD!

Hey there music freaks! Sorry about the day late upload. SO GET IT NOW!

The time is now and Digital Glitch Episode 18 is about to blow out your speakers! This set was built on a theme behind it as well, and its theme was death. Any tracks having to do with death, die and dying. So it’s a very grim set especially with it being only one more week from Halloween! But do not think for a moment that this mix of music will not have you moving your ass! I have some brand new tracks from Acylum, Skinny Puppy, Binary Park and Traumatize to tantalize your taste buds as well. So let us all get our drinks ready and move all the stuff off the shelves on the wall, because the bass will not be responsible for anything it breaks! LET’S DO THIS! The dead will arise to the nasty bass beats of aggression!

Review by: Tiffany Angeney

Skinny Puppy, the name beats in the heart of the Industrial Music scene. Skinny Puppy was founded in 1982 as a mere side project of the master of music that is cEvin Key. Add in the unsettling vocals of Nivek Ogre and the unrelenting genius of Dwayne Goettel and you arguably have the most influential Industrial bands of this century. Raw, Organic and hard hitting, Skinny Puppy became the sound many associate with the industrial genre. The complex layers of sound fused with Nivek’s mind numbing vocals, and stimulating lyrics in open monologue form fed the music. With the loss of Dwayne in the mid 90′s and Ogre’s leaving the band, Skinny Puppy was put on hold. In 2004 “The Greater Wrong Of The Right” was released and it was clear the Skinny Puppy we knew had changed forever. Gone was the signature vocals and raw power we once knew. Ogre’s vocals were clean, the samples fewer and the sound modern. Production value was clearly given thought, yet somehow it wasn’t the same. “Mythmaker” was soon to follow with its simplified sound and it fared well on the charts. Four long years later and we are finally seeing the release of the long awaited hanDover. (more…)

Review by: Tiffany Angeney

ohGr is the project formed by Nivek Ogre, of Skinny Puppy fame, and musician/engineer Mark Walk in 2000.

As a fan of both Skinny Puppy and ohGr, I almost fainted from happiness when I got this CD to review.  unDeveloped opens with “101 Intro” I have to admit I was very surprised when I heard the second song on the album entitled “101”. My first reaction was to look and make sure I had the right CD in. “101” is reminiscent of Old School Skinny Puppy back when they drew very heavy from electro, hip-hop and Martial Industrial. A melodic, dancy beat makes it’s the perfect song for requesting at your local club. (more…)

:CD Review: Dawn of Ashes – The Crypt Injection

Dawn of Ashes – The Crypt Injection
Released: October 25, 2007
Label: COP International
Band Website:www.dawnofashes.com

Review by Amy Reynolds
California based Dawn of Ashes has released their second full length album, “The Crypt Injection”, after remaining silent for nearly a year. They have remained cohesive in their theme of hate, horror, and violence; treating the assemblage to mix of synth, drums, and goblin-like vocals.

“A Blade in the Dark” begins with a synthesised drum beat and starts us off with a news broadcast of a mass murderer, taking us quickly into a song meant for the dance floor. The vocals are dark and murderous, transforming you into the mindset of one such as Jeffrey Dahmer or Hannibal Lecter. (more…)
