Uberbyte – Five Year Plan
Label: Vendetta Music / dPulse
Release date: October 16, 2012
Website: www.uberbyte.net

Review by: Gabe Wilkinson

Most of you reading this are probably familiar with Uberbyte from their previous albums and their numerous compilation appearances. You may have also seen their statements about changing the game and about people hating their new direction. After listening to their most recent release, Five Year Plan, I can’t say that I hate this new direction. I can, however, confirm that this new album represents a huge leap stylistically from Uberbyte’s previous albums. (more…)

Label: Alfa Matrix

Review by: Grant V. Ziegler

The Alfa Matrix record label is home to many current, past, and up-and-coming industrial artists. Since its inception, Alfa Matrix has strived to give struggling and established artists a chance to flourish in this dying music market. And on October 26th, Alfa Matrix released its sixth installment of the Endzeit Bunkertracks compilation. This gargantuan music-festival-in-a-box seems to grow with each and every release, and this time it contains four separate CDs comprised of 68 tracks and five hours of music. (more…)

Various Artists – Electronic Saviors Volume II Recurrence
Release Date: May 8, 2012
Label: Metropolis Records
Website: electronicsaviors.com

Review by: DeVico

Jim Semonik is back with the second compilation installment of Electronic Saviors and this time, the ceiling has been lifted to become an even huger and massive compilation. With proceeds going to at least two charities: Gilda’s Club/Cancer Support Community and The Bone Marrow Foundation you get the chance to help others and build your music library. ES Volume 1 was a sold out product on Metropolis Records and with good fortune, I am hoping they have the same scenario with ES Volume 2. The premium edition of ES 2 comes with six CD’s and two digital discs. This compilation clocks at 142 tracks with over 10 hours of play. Seriously, this is a juggernaut of music. (more…)

Well, there have been a few really kickfuckingass albums this year. Lots of established artists bringing out new material, and a few new turks making their presence known. If I had to choose the albums that did it for me though this year, it would have to be Surgyn’s “Vanity” and KMFDM’s WTF! (more…)

:Feature: Crunch Pod Retrospective

Crunch Pod.

Even to those whom are unaware of the label, the name evokes a specific image of primitive edginess (the Crunch) and, at the same time, sleek modernity (the Pod). Founded in 1998 by Ben Arp, Crunch Pod served as the incubator for artists like Caustic, Manufactura, Bitch Brigade, Uberbyte, Polluted Axis, Ben Arp’s own C/A/T and many many more. Originally a traditional label, in that they had a business plan similar to many of the major record companies and released actual physical CDs, Crunch Pod transitioned to a digital only label in 2010 a move brought on by the many changes to the music industry during the thirteen years of the label’s existence. When the label was founded, there was no bandcamp, SoundCloud, Pandora, etc…, social network sites like Facebook and MySpace didn’t exist and it wasn’t until a year later that those who were “computer savvy” could use the original Napster. It was another three years from the label’s birth to the release of the first 5 GB iPod, when the digital music revolution was effectively launched.

Nachtmahr – Can You Feel The Beat?
Label: Trisol Music Group
Release Date: November 4, 2011
Website: nachtmahr.at

Review by: Neska Lapicki

I had heard of Nachtmahr before but didn’t have any of their music, so when the new EP Can You Feel The Beat? came out I figured I should check them out. While I waited for the EP to arrive, I checked out the official video for the single on Youtube. WOW. This is a band that is not aiming for subtle. The video is slick, well-produced, and definitely thought-provoking. Having gone sexy military for Halloween myself, I can say that Nachtmahr has absolutely conquered that particular niche image-wise, and done it with a nod to over-the-top. (more…)

:Review: Uberbyte – NFY

Uberbyte – NFY
Release Date: September 5, 2011
Label: CrunchPod
Website: uberbyte.net

Review by: Review by: Tiffany Angeney

Uberbyte rose from the ashes of Killing Miranda in late 2006. Wasting no time Uberbyte released SIC on Crunchpod in 2008. DOS and EXS were soon to follow. Their latest album, NFY was released on September 5, 2011 on the Crunchpod label. With the demise of Crunchpod I’m eagerly awaiting to see what label will snatch up this wonderful band.

Before you turn this album on I’d like to issue a warning. This is NOT your typical Uberbyte. Uberman has taken the band in a whole different direction. Gone is the harsh distorted sound and guttural vocals. While the driving beats and the TBM elements are still VERY present, this is British Electronica. Pure analog sound defines the album. It’s clean and simple, yet raw and very full of emotion. (more…)

So download and lock in and crank up… THE BASS.

If you didn’t get to listen in this Tuesday, you really need to download this episode as we hear from Ben Arp and the new compilation off his label Crunch Pod Records: Justicia Pro Bestia. Justicia Pro Bestia (Justice for Animals) is a collection of artists who believe that animals deserve their own rights and much more. All the proceeds from the sale of this digital compilation will be donated to The Animal Legal Defense Fund. Along with promoting this great album (of which I play 6 songs ) Ben goes on to let us know about the upcoming new releases coming out on Crunch Pod this Fall, and also the upcoming releases with his own projects. If this is not a good enough reason to listen, just get this to hear me literally trip over my own tongue in trying to introduce Ben Arp in the interview. Since 1979 The Animal Legal Defense Fund have been fighting for animal rights, domestic and wild, by working to improve and expand laws protecting animals and to help make penalties against animal abusers much tougher.  In association with Crunch Pod, the electronic music label founded by Ben Arp, comes the compilation album Justicia Pro Bestia containing 24 previously unreleased songs and/or remixes from an exceptionally diverse group of artists from across the spectrum of electronic music.

:News: Crunch Pod Annouces JUSTICIA PRO BESTIA Charity Compilation

Throughout much of the United States animals have about as many rights as a piece of furniture. There are more laws protecting your car then there are for animals. They are considered nothing more than “property” and do not deserve any rights. People who abuse them usually get little to no punishment for the suffering they cause.   It’s time for that to change. Nachtmahr/ Uberbyte/ Kommand + Kontrol
February 4, 2011
Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England @ Corporation

Review by: Jack Knowles

The floor was lightest when the opening act Kommand + Kontrol took the stage—a  dark electro act with a modest, underground following. However, their followers were obviously not present in the crowd. Donning Italian gangster outfits, Kommand + Kontrol gave a rather timid performance compared to the other acts that night, as they seemed to realize the crowd weren’t that into them, but watched and applauded politely. The half hour performance seemed to drag, but was received well, and it was all worth it to see Uberbyte… (more…)
